Hi, I’m Mel Ciavucco. I’m a writer and vlogger – I talk about mental health, body image, self-esteem, eating disorders, gender equality and more.

A little bit about me… I love pizza, yoga and wine but not all at the same time (it’d be fun though!)
I’ve worked in the charity sector for over eight years, and within that for eating disorder charities for over four years. I’m writing a book about body image, weight stigma, eating disorders and the like, based around my experiences too. I say I’m writing it… I’m a full-time student with two jobs so as you can imagine it sits in a comfortable rarely-opened folder on my laptop most of the time!
I’m training to be a counsellor which means I bang on about empathy a lot. Well, in fact I did that way before I started training to be a counsellor. It’s just nice.
I’ve been on BBC Two and Radio Five Live, talking about the TV show 13 Reasons Why (though Nicky Campbell thought we were talking about a completely different show, but somehow it worked). I’m pretty passionate about how mental health and diversity are portrayed on TV and in films as I’ve written screenplays myself. I believe in representation and the power of storytelling. Honesty and vulnerability are key.
I was recently published in Therapy Today magazine, in the June 2021 edition, which I’m pretty darned impressed with myself for, being a girl from the Midlands who never thought I’d really make anything of myself. It’s for members/subscribers only, but I wrote a similar blog before it which you can read here.
